Friday-Sunday games at Canlan York Arena. Thursday games (if needed) will run in the GTA - location TBD.

Refund Policy

COVID-19 Related

The North York Knights Hockey Club will offer a full refund of tournament fee paid for The Kennedy Challenge if any team cannot participate due to restrictions of the Provincial Government, Public Health Units, OHF or GTHL.

General Refund Policy

The North York Knights Hockey Club will offer a full refund for tournament fee paid to a team that withdraws at least 45 days prior to the start of the tournament and ONLY if a replacement team can be found.

A $100 administrative fee will be applied to all withdrawals.

Once the schedule has been released for the tournament, there will be NO REFUNDS.

Tournament Rules

General Rules

• Hockey Canada and GTHL Rules apply except where noted

• OHF Minimum Suspension List will apply

• No protests are permitted. The referee's and/or tournament committee's decisions are final

• Players must wear equipment (mouth guards, neck guards etc.) as mandated by their own League

• Teams must be ready to play 15 minutes before scheduled game times

Game Format

• Three 12-minute periods, stop time for all divisions

• The clock will run in the third period if there is a five-goal spread

• Stop time will resume if the goal spread is reduced to three

• One 30-second time-out allowed during regulation time. No time-outs allowed in overtime in playoffs

Scoring System

• Three points for a win in regulation time

• Two points for a shootout win

• One point for a shootout loss

Shootout Format (Round Robin):

• Minimum of 3 shooters per team

• Home team shoots first

• If no winner after 3 shooters, continue with sets of one using different players

• All tied playoff games will go to overtime (see overtime rules)

Playoff Overtime

• Sudden death period with four-on-four skaters

• After 4 minutes, buzzer sounds and one player removed (three-on-three)

• After 4 more minutes, buzzer sounds and one player removed (two-on-two)

• Continue two-on-two until a winner is declared

• No time outs allowed at the buzzer

Player Eligibility & Roster

• All players including affiliates must be registered on the current HCR 3.0 system

• Valid roster sheet must be available for inspection by tournament officials

• Teams must produce a sanction permit or letter of permission from their HC or International affiliated branch

Maximum Players Dressed:

• U10-U13: Maximum 17 registered players

• U14-U17: Maximum 17 players (or up to 19 if registered)

• U18: Maximum 19 players

This is a non-contact "A" Tournament from U10 to U18.

Are there hotel requirements?

All out of town teams must book with our tournament hotels. Contact the tournament registrar for hotel booking information.

What equipment is mandatory?

You are governed by the requirements of your own league. Players must wear the equipment (mouth guards, neck guards etc.) as required by their own league.

How many games are guaranteed?

All teams are guaranteed 4 games throughout the tournament.
